Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

I did not sign the contract

My husband attended truck driver school a couple yrs. ago. I would not want to sign the form so the school told him it would be OK if he signed my name. He had a business that folded and has since filed chpt. 7 which I was not involved with, most of our bills are kept seperate. I was served with a court order to appear in court for the balance of this debt which he filed chpt. 7 on and I did not agree to. Am I responsible for this debt even after he filed chpt. 7 and I did not sign the contract?

Re: I did not sign the contract

If you gave your husband permission to sign your name, you would be liable for the debt. If the school told your husband to sign your name without your permission, you would not be liable. Generally it is believed that a spouse has permission when they sign their spouse's name, but if you can prove that he did not have permission and that it was not your normal course of business for him to sign your name, you would probably not be liable.
