Despite what Mr. Heroux posted, you are NOT "obviously charged with a crime," and you may not need a lawyer at all, unless you end up charged, or you believe police are possibly investigating matters and may charge you, or unless police want to speak with you. Under any of those circumstances, you do definitely need a lawyer. Speaking with the police without one is foolish.

Now, back to your basic question, you can be "charged" regardless what the facts of a situation might be, thought the prosecution still has to prove its case. Anytime you are actually addressing plea options and not just asking a hypothetical question, you definitely do need to speak to a lawyer.

As to a "no-no contendera" plea, it is actually Nolo Contendere, which is Latin and means you "no contest, in other words you are allowing the court to enter a conviction against you and not fighting the charge. It ends up recorded just the same as any conviction.

You are obviously charged with a crime, you need a lawyer. Contact me through my website at TennesseeDefense.com for information. If you can not afford a lawyer, contact the public defender's office in the county where this charge is to be heard. Again, you need a lawyer.
