Re: what is the aggrevated assault and assault

The maximum sentence for SIMPLE assault is 11 months and 29 days, but the conviction would also make it illegal for you to ever again buy, own, possess, or hold in your hands any firearm of any kind, and conviction can also create grounds for divorce, seriously harm your chance of getting custody of a child in or after a divorce, and allow your spouse to sue you in court.

If the conviction is for AGGRAVATED assault, you are looking at a sentence of a MINIMUM of 8 years in prison.

To quote one of my favorite movie lines -- Please ignore the man behind the curtain.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I answered the question initially, but I was wrong.

Aggravated Assault under Tennessee law carries a sentence of 3-6 for a first time offender, and NOT a minimum of 8 years as I wrote initially.
