Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

I was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor in 1994. I plead guilty to "Attempted Larceny over $100". The misdemeanor was a minor pot possetion. I cannot seem to get a job and it has been over 15 years. I have been in no trouble since. I was also told that I couldn't get the felony expunged because I had,1 felony and 1 misdemeanor. I recently applied with a company that I believe is an equal opportunity employer and was told that they are Government funded and are not allowed to hire me because of my record. Is there a statue of limitations on felonies so that it can not be held against you after so many years or that after so long you do not have to put it on an application?

Thank you for your question.

There is no statute of limitations on convictions and how long they are discoverable and can be viewed by potential employers (or used, however the case might be).

However, depending on your age and prior record, the case might be expungeable.

Let me know the following and I will let you know if there is anything that can be done.

1. DOB

2. Date of conviction

3. Whether you had any prior convictions of any sort prior to this one, and what they were.

It's quicker if you email the above to me at

Thanks!
