Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee
Class B felony-theft
My friend has been charged with a class B felony theft. He has no previous record, can pay back all money stolen up front at one time. Is it possible for this person to avoid jail? They have a master's degree and have had stable job until this.

Yes, it is possible to avoid jail. The best advice is for your friend to seek the counsel of an attorney to represent him in criminal court. If he is able to pay back the money stolen, he should do that as soon as possible. That will not preclude punishment but is something the court is going to require anyway.
