expungement
How can I be sure that a criminal conviction has been expunged, and future employers would not be able to access this information by means of a background check?

Re: expungement
Go to the office of the clerk of the court where you were charged, do NOT identify yourself (or have someone else go for you) and ask to see a copy of the court records of your case. If they still have them, the records obviously have no been expunged. If they say there is no such record, they probably have been.
