Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

My fiance recently lost all of his possessions in a property fire in TN, including an arsenal of several legally owned guns. We gave a list of all lost property to the insurance company, which included the weapons, but

Now the sheriffs dept is asking for their own list of just the guns. They wouldn't tell us what the list was for. Should we cooperate or retain our privacy, as they were all legally owned and my fiance is afraid the list could be used to falsely incriminate him of something.

You don't have to disclose the list of the guns to law enforcement if you don't want to do so.

If there is any chance that the guns were the subject of a burglary, with a fire to cover it up, then law enforcement might be able to help you recover them by entering the numbers in NCIC as possible stolen weapons in case they later turn up at a pawn shop, or in the possession of a burglar.
