Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

A friend of mine rang the police recently when she witnessed a crime taking place (someone stealing an air conditioner from one of her neighboring properties. Now she has received a subpoena to witness a preliminary trial, however it turns out the criminal is one of her neighbours and she is afraid to appear in court because it could mean that she is placing herself at risk of being taken revenge on when he knows that she was involved in him being caught.

Can you advise us as to what she can do to prevent this situation from arising. She would prefer not to be seen to be involved by this person at all.

Thanking you in advance

If pressed, she MUST respond to a subpoena and testify in court.

But she should call the District Attorney first and see if they actually need her, or if the subpoena was issued but the Defendant will waive the hearing, etc.
