Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

Marijuana charge

I pay to stay at a friends house. I have my own room and everything I have is in it. I dont even use the other part of the house. Just the bedroom. He got stopped while driving and had a small amount of marijuana on him. For some reason or another they ended up at his house searching it (no warrent just his permission)They found more in the house but they also went into the part of the house I pay to stay in. Noone else goes in there. They found the small amount I had and now I have a misdemeaner citation. I know that I shouldn't be smoking marijuana but is it legal for them to go into my room that I pay for without MY permission or a search warrent? I don't actually pay him cash because I do some work for him also. Instead of him paying me and then me just having to give it back, he just uses what I would have gotten to cover rent, electric and water. But that part of the house is MY house.

There may be a basis for suppression of the search of your room, you need a lawyer to represent you in this criminal matter.

In Tennessee, you are charged with a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.00. In addition, a third or subsequent Simple Possession charge my be a felony.
