If it's Nashville / Davidson County, you will probably be given the chance to attend a "John's Class" and have the charge dismissed upon paying court costs.
In other jurisdictions the rules vary, so you should ask for a Public Defender or hire an attorney if you are financially able to do so.
It's a conviction you don't want on your record.
