Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

Public Fighting

I have a friend who was in a situation where the other party came at him with a maglite to do some damage over an argument. He, in turn, raised up a bottle and cracked it over his head. The police came and he said he wouldn't press charges, however the other party turned around and pressed charges. The police let him go home that night because he was being very cooperative, however he has to turn himself in today. They mentioned 30 days in jail. Is there anyway he would not have to do time over such an idiotic thing?

Re: Public Fighting

Your friend is charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor under Tennessee law, meaning he could do 11 months and 29 days in jail if convicted.

The best way to avoid that is to avoid being convicted.

He needs to contact an attorney who does a good deal of criminal defense work.

If he is near my part of the state, have him give me a call.
