Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

Question regarding class E felony...

I was discovered to have changed the quantity of one of my prescription medications. This is my first offense. My dr. told me that the FBI has been in contact with him (he denied knowing how they learned of this incident) and has told me that if I don't check myself into an Intreatment rehab facility by June 1st, for the duration of a month the FBI will press criminal charges and I will go to prison for a year. He refused to give me any contact information so I could talk to someone at the FBI or any other law enforcement agency and I have no idea how to get answers. I have 3 children and the summer is starting. My husband works nights and can't take care of them.

First, it is extremely unlikely the FBI would have anything to do with a matter like this. Altering your prescription would be a state offense, but not a federal offense, meaning the FBI, which investigates federal matters, would not have anything to do with it. Next, if there is a decision to prosecute you, that decision is going to be independent of you going in for any treatment. Next, if you DID go in for treatment, how is it that the investigating officer would know about it before you were charged? Next, even if you WERE charged, there are ways to avoid a conviction, or to avoid having a conviction appear on your record. Next, under TN law, if you are convicted of a single Class E felony such as this, and you have no prior convictions, the court is REQUIRED to give you probation. And finally, even if you WERE arrested and then convicted and then sentenced to serve a year in prison, under Tennessee law that "year" would be over in three months, at which time you would be paroled.

Your doctor is blowing smoke. Change doctors. And stop screwing around with your prescriptions.
