Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee
Getting record expunged for carry permit
In Giles County, TN, over 17 years ago, I was arrested & charged with 2 counts of larceny. I was very young and it was a case of ''being at the wrong place at the wrong time''. I was told that after 7 years the charges would no longer be on my record. I have never been in trouble with the law since. I recently tried to purchase a gun but wasn't able, due to this still showing up. I thought the fines had been paid by the guy I was with at the time. Since it was his idea to pull this stupid stunt & I didn't want anything to do with it, I told him HE had to pay my fines. However, the courts don't have any record of my fines being paid. And after 17+ years, I don't have any proof that they were. So my question is, how do I get this taken off my record so I can get my carry permit for a gun?

Re: Getting record expunged for carry permit
You need to look at the sentencing paperwork in your case. If you entered into some sort of diversion agreement under which the record could or would be expunged if you stayed out of trouble and paid the fines, just pay the fines now and get your record expunged.
But to find out what the court actually ordered you need to look at the order.
