Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee
Reliable Witness?
Initially John Doe refuses to testify against Jane Doe in a trial; however,
later a detective offers John Doe a deal and states that the court will drop four class C felonies if he testifies against Jane.
Would John Doe still be considered a reliable witness?

Absolutely not.
But the fact that there is a deal goes to the weight of the evidence,
not the admissibility.
Special rules apply if John Doe is an accomplice, but in any case
any reasonable judge or jury is going to want more proof than a codefendant.
