Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee
Shoplifting law questions
I was wondering what potentially a sentence would be for a person who has a charge of theft under 500 dollars. They have a clean record before this, are in school and have a steady job. What kind of sentence are they looking at in the state of TN? (jail time, fines, probation ect...)

Re: Shoplifting law questions
11 months, 29 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,500 and restitution to the victim..... but it would be very unusual if your fine was anything close to that and more than likely even if you got the sentence of 11 months and 29 days, most of that would likely be on probation.
that is the worst case scenario, and you might be able to enter a plea that would allow you to keep the case off of your record entirely.
