Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee

Stalking / harassment

I have recently had an ex parte restraining order taken out against me by someone who had been a close friend.

I mailed here two anonymous letters caused to paint her current boyfriend in a negative light with the result sought of their breakup.

I have never followed, or harmed the person, I have never threatened the person. Yet she feels ''afraid'' of me and fears that I would assault her after service of the restraining order.

I would do no such thing. This was simply a prank gone too far. I am appalled by what I have done and by my behaviour.

I do not wish to contact the person nor do I wish them any harm. I simply want to move on with my life and put this behind us.

I work in a bank, and can not risk the order becoming permanent for fear of losing my job.

I would like to make restitution amends to those who I have offended and caused undue emotional distress, which was never my intention. I simply wanted to provide cause for my friend to leave her boyfriend.

I never meant any harm, and I not intend to violate the temporary order or ever have contact with my former friend again.

What is my recourse? What should I do now? This would be my first offense of anything more severe than a speeding ticket.

Re: Stalking / harassment

If there is a hearing coming up for the restraining order, you can answer by showing up to the hearing, explaining your side and that you do not wish to contact the person again. If you have already missed the hearing, you should just do as your letter states and move on and never contact her again.
