Legal Question in Criminal Law in Tennessee
Underage Sexual Relations
I am a 23 yr. old male in the state of TN., and I have been dating a 17 year old who will be turning 18 in 11 days. We had not had any physical contact until yesterday. We did have sexual relations for the first time yesterday, which I know was a terrible mistake. We are in love though, and I do not want to go to jail. I want to ask her to marry me, and this decision is not because of our sexual contact-we have discussed the idea previously. I just want to know if there is any defense or if I am beyond hope. I have been told that once she turns 18, she can testify as an adult, and that if she agrees that she had consented, there is no case against us. This however, was not coming from a professional opinion. Is there anything that we can do to protect our relationship?

Re: Underage Sexual Relations
Yes, there is something you can do to protect your relationship.
Make sure neither of you tells anyone what you did.
The only way charges will be filed is if someone reports it.
If no one knows other than the two of you, and neither of you report it, then no charges will be filed.
Now, keep your pants on until she is 18 or you are married to her.
