Legal Question in DUI Law in Tennessee

my husband received a dui charge a few months ago in TN and got charged with fines about $1000. He hasnt been able to take his dui class or pay his fines yet because we have been struggling as a newly married couple and cant afford it right now. He is becoming extremely scared and discouraged and considering leaving the state to either AL or NY. what are some possible solutions for his problem and what possible consequences may he face if he does leave to either state?

First, grow up. He didn't "receive a DUI charge."

Start off with the truth, things will go better from there.

"My husband was convicted for DUI."

If he leaves the state while on probation, things will just get worse.

We call that a Violation of Probation. A warrant will be issued for

his arrest, and with a warrant outstanding do you think job opportunities

will get any better?

DUI school usually costs about $100. That's not an impossible fee.

As far as the fine and costs, ask his attorney if the trial judge will

waive them due to indigence. In many counties (and each is different)

the court might totally waive them, reduce them to "litigation taxes" or

reduce them to a small "good faith" payment each month, then waive the

balance at the end of an otherwise successful period of probation.

Just remember, NOT taking care of business on probation and absconding

WILL leave his driver's license revoked, potentially forever.
