Friends of mine,in their 70s and in good mental health have an abusive son who only wants to get control of their
estate and them. what can be done to prevent this?

If your friends are able to make decisions concerning their affairs on their own and have no mental or physical disabilities, there is not much that can be done if a person is willingsly allowing a person or relative to abuse them. However, if there is some sort of limited capacity, mental or physical i.e (advanced years) which affects one's ability to make decisions concerning his affairs, a court could find them disabled and appoint a conservator.
