Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Why can't I get back child support?

For the 1st 8 yrs of my child's life I took care of her. In 1999, she asked to meet her father & that was all she wanted to do was meet him. He then hired an attorney and got visitation. We got child support ordered also. In 2002, I took him to court for arrearage and also asked for back child support from 1991 to 1999. Was denied. I didn't have an attorney in 1999, used his attorney, but I didn't understand what he did until 2002. Is there a law that will show that we are entitled to that back child support from 1991-1999? I was set up and didn't realize it in 1999 by his attorney and him. Please give any advise that will help. Thank you.

Re: Why can't I get back child support?

In order to alter an order which is 6 or more years old, one would need to show duress, fraud, or some other extremely compelling reason why the prior support amount should be modified. Not just I believe I got railroaded. I would be happly to discuss this with you. 423 266-4855
