Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
Name Change After Divorce
How do I go about changing my last name back to my maiden name now that I am divorced? Do I need to apply for name change, file with the courts or go before a judge for this?

Generally speaking this is not a very difficult process. Contact an attorney and he or she can tell you what to do or do it for you for a reasonable fee.
Re: Name Change After Divorce
A short petition can be filed with the court and you will get a court order changing your name provided the change is not for the purpose of defrauding someone.....sometimes the courts are reluctant to change your name if you have minor children living with you and they would not have the same name as you,
Re: Name Change After Divorce
You don't even need to go to court to change your name, and if your divorce was recent, if you wanted to return to court you might go back to that court to amend the final decree to include a name change (check with your attorney on that).
