Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

changing my daughters last name?

I got married about a year ago. I have a daughter from a previous relationship. She doesn't have her biological father's last name she only has mine. Her biological father has never met her I don't even know where he is.my husband and I have been together for about 5 yrs (since I was 2 months pregnant with my daughter) .my husband and I want to change her last name to his. how do I go about doing this? Where do I start? Will there be any problem since the biological father is nowhere to be found.

Re: changing my daughters last name?

A better option for you may be to consider a step parent adoption. This can be accomplished without the permission of the biological father given the facts you have given (there are procedures you must go through to accomplish this). Thanks.
