Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
child abandonment
my husband left when my child was 4 weeks old, 3-15-2006. my divorce is close to being finalized. however, i am not sure if requesting that his parental rights be terminated is appropriate. over the past 19 months, he has given me a total of $1900.00 in child support, when ever he feels like giving it to me. in addition he has only requested to see the child once every 2 to 3 months, with his longest visit being 90 minutes. i have never denied him to come visit, my family also reminds him that if i am at work he and his family can contact my mother, she has stated on numerous times that she will do what ever she they need so that he and his family can visit and build a relationship with the child

Re: child abandonment
All things being equal, a judge will probably not terminate his parental rights unless there was another man (i.e. a step-father) to step into the role. The state of Tennessee will enforce your right to child support however.
