Unfortunately, your romantic relationship with your roommate can be considered (maybe not legally) as some reason for you not to gain custody. Particularly since you're going to have to do this is TN. You know what TN thinks of same sex relationships better than I do. I know it's not right, but it would cost you a *bunch* of money to fight this. If you've got it, go for it. If not, well I'm sorry. That's just the way it is. Not legal - just the way it is.

You really need to hire a family law attorney as soon as possible. The more time the child lives with his grandparents, the less likely you are going to be able to gain custody. There are constitutional issues invovled in your case, namely, your constitutional right to raise your child. Generally speaking, a natural parent has priority over third parties. There are exceptions which a lawyer can explain. Obviously, under the circumstances, you have a complicated case, but the sooner you get a lawyer on this the better. Best of luck to you.
