Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

child custody and welfare

My daughter is 27, divorced, living in

FL. She has a 5 year old son, with

whom I am very close. My daughter

called and begged us to come down

there and get him because she had

substance abuse problems. She

confessed to being a horrible mother

who drinks and does drugs and

resents her son. We had seen

evidence of this in the past, and

were very concerned, but felt

powerless. She holds down an

excellent job, but he is neglected.

We rushed down there and got him

and brought him here with the

intention of putting him in

kindergarten here (TN) while she

gets help, which is what she asked

us to do. Now she refuses to sign the

temporary caregiver order so that we

can get him in kindergarten because

we will ''use it against her'' in the

future. She most likely will not get

help, as it has not happened yet.

What are our options?

Re: child custody and welfare

You can file for emergency custody at your local juvenile county court. You should have some proof of the drug abuse and alcoholism.
