Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Child Support

My husband pays child support for his daughter from a previous marriage. She turns 18 in March. Does he just stop paying or do you have to go through the courts to stop the payment? She is also working and supporting herself and she is also living with her boyfriend. Anything we can do about that? They live in Myrtle Beach, SC now.

Re: Child Support

If she has already moved out and is no longer living with the mother (and presumably has also left school) your husband should file a petition to modify to end his child support NOW instead of paying it for another 9 months. Have him call me if he wants to discuss his options.

Re: Child Support

You must continue to pay child support so long as she remains in high school excepting cases where she has failed a grade. You do need to file a petition to modify child support if you want to do something about it now. Otherwise, you would be help responsible for it.
