Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Child Support when child is not mine

I have been paying child support for a child I thought was mine for many years. I recently discovered that the child is not mine and I would like to know my legal rights even though my name is on the birth certificate. I was never married to the child's mother. Please let me know how I can move forward after all these years of supporting the child.

Re: Child Support when child is not mine

You should have an independent lab do a DNA test on you and the child you are paying support for (assuming you have legal access to the child). This will establish whether you really are the father and whether you'd want to proceed to petition the courts to establish paternity. People lie so this is the only way to be sure before getting the courts involved.
