Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Child Support Payments

I was recently hurt on the job and have been unable to work for six weeks. There's a real possiblity that I will be unemployed for the foreseeable future. Is there any way to modify child support payments?

Re: Child Support Payments

Absolutely you have a right to ask for a modification. If you have a significant decrease in income through no fault of your own, you really need to talk to your family law attorney about seeking a modification. The lawyer can talk to you about how Worker's Compensation and disability payments factor in. But you do not want to go a single month without paying child support because you will not be able to obtain a retroacive modification, so the sooner you adress this the better. Best of luck.
