Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

child support

I got behind on my child support payments starting in 1997 and by 1999 she hired a company called texas child support enforcement ( based in Austin TX.)to start garneshments against my paychecks in amounts of 426.00 monthly. She resides in the state of Florida and I in New Mexico, But our divorce was done in Washington County TN. The past due support is now almost paid in full ( my daughter in now 19 ) but the company she hired has tacked on about $ 10,000 in interest and has informed her that they are within their rights to due it. I have reserched the Tn. State Profile and it clearly states that there is '' no '' interest on back due child support.

This Texas company is a collection agency and takes a percentage of all payments to my ex-wife.

Is it legal for this company to charge interest, when TN. law says NO. What can I do before this company begins taking money from my paychecks that is solely interest based.

I am coming to Johnson City TN. on August 18, thru August 25, 2007 I would like to meet with someone can handle this matter, or If preferred handle throught correspondance.

Re: child support

I would be interested in seeing the website you are talking about. Child support orders are just like other judgment in that if they are not paid, the statutory interest rate can apply. You might be able to come to an agreement with your ex on the issue through negotiation.
