Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

continue child support??

My husband was divorced in jackson,Tn. His son is almost 18 & will be going to college in the fall. The son's mother has said that my husband will have to continue supprt untill the son graduates from college. Th divorce decree says support stops when the son is 18. What is the answer??

Generally speaking the child support obligation will continue until age 18 or until he graduates High School, which ever is the later date. That is not an exact explanation but it is close. There are exceptions such as in cases where the father agrees to pay for college or support post-high school or where the child is disabled, but you will need to speak with a family law attorney in your area to make sure you are not leaving some information out of your question.
