Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
Custodial and Out of state visits.
As a person who lives with the legal father of my minor child (un-married) and who is soon to be split from that person, what type of agreement do I require for him to take the child out of state and what type of custody agreement should I seek? I'm very concerned about him taking him out of state for a grandparent visit and not returning.

Re: Custodial and Out of state visits.
The best thing to do would be to get an Order of Custody making clear that you have legal custody of the child, and then also have an Agreed Order regarding his visitation generally or his visitation for any out of town trip in particular. Without an Order, Tennessee law would make it difficult to charge him with Custodial Interference for failing to return the child. If the two of you agree on things, you should be able to have the Order prepared, signed by both of you and then entered by the Court fairly easily, inexpensively and quickly. If he will not agree to things, you can still probably set out your concerns and get a Court to Order to Order than he not leave the state with the child or that he return with the child if he does leave with the child, and get all of that done very quickly, with a full hearin gon the issues set some time well down the road.
