Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Dissolution of Marriage Form

I used an online divorce form, but when my husband went to court he was told he needed a ''Dissolution of Marriage Form'' is this just a final divorce decree? I thought the court provided this as part of the filing fee that I paid.

Re: Dissolution of Marriage Form

Do you mean an affidavit of irretrievable breakdown of the marriage, or the separation agreement.

Both of these are requied. Each serves a different purpose.

If you can be more precise, contact me.

It is almost always cheaper, a heck of a lot easier, and always wiser to hire a lawyer to assist you with your divorce. Your filing fee does not require the clerk to provide any legal advice. More than likely the court was refering to a Marital Dissolution Agreement which has certain statutory requirements. It is possible, but doubtful that your on-line form is going to meet all the legal requirements. By the way, the on-line form is certainly not going to make sure your legal rights are protected. My advice is to hire legal counsel. Best of luck to you.

Retain an attorney to advise you. Even the most amicable divorce usually involves more than just filling out the right forms. You are penny wise and pound foolish to act as your own attorney. Good Luck!
