Do I need a divorce or annulment to remarry?
I live in Florida. I met a man who represented himself as rich and famous. We eloped in Tenn. It turned out that he was an escaped convict and con man. He gave a false name, address and age on the marriage license application. He was already married under his legal name and his wife lived in Colorado. He was eventually arrested and jailed. I know our marriage was never legal, but do I need to take action to end this? Am I free to remarry or do I need to take this action first?

I can only advise you regarding Tennessee, since I'm licensed to practice here and not in Florida -- you would have no difficulty getting an annulment in Tennessee, not because he lied about having money but because he was already married at the time he married you.
While the marriage is technically void, which might lead you to conclude you do not need an annulment since the marriage was void from the start, you are still best advised to have it annuled instead of going ahead without an annulment. Why? Well, until you get it annulled your NEXT marriage could have the same problem -- YOU whould have been married (even though the first marriage was void) without getting a divorce or annullment before remarrying.
Getting a divorce or annullment will make you life MUCH easier in the future.
