Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Final Divorce Decree

To Whom it may Concer:

My boyfriend and I have been together for the last six months. His divorce wasn't final until October 25 1999, (Today). They have been going through this proceeding for a year.

She called to tell him the news tonight and informed him that he couldn't purchase any property or get married within 30 days. I was wonder if that is totally true about the property because I have never heard of that.

My question is

Can we get married before that 30 day waiting period and can we purchase land before that 30 day waiting period is over with. I just thought that was leway period incase the party decided to get back together and I have never heard of the property thing. I'm hoping you can answer my question.

Sincerely,

Lady in waiting.

Re: Final Divorce Decree

He can buy property, and he can get married within 30 days of the divorce decree.... it's just that he would be foolish to do so because for the first 30 days after an order is entered either side can go back tot he court to ask the court to reconsider or they can appeal, meaning the divorce could be set aside and the former spouse could have a claim on any of the property he had bought, and the new marriage could end up void because it would be a bigamous marriage.

Wait. 30 days is not that long.
