Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
grandparent visitation
the mother of a 2year old is making it impossible for visitation to occur. she has purposely moved across country and has never intended on allowing regular visits. when contact w/the child is attemped via phone she uses the opportunity to barrate me and will not allow the child to converse. she constantly puts roadblocks up and goes against court orders regarding visitation b/c she's out of state and knows going to court costs money i don't have. she has repeatedly asked me to sign away my rights....i have fought for custody and lost eventhough evidence proved her unfit....my question is IF i was to sign away rights(to save my child from the constant turmoil the mother is causing...which includes police interference everytime transfer of custody is to take place) could my mother still have a right to petition for visitation?? you see my ex has no problems w/my mother just w/me. or would this make it more difficult for my mother to have visitation.....also could i offer her what she wants...me out of the child's life on the condition she allows my mother to have involvement in the child's life?? if so how?

Re: grandparent visitation
In my opinion you cannot make a "deal" with the child's mother to voluntarily relinquish your parental rights in exchange for the mother giving your mother visitation rights. It's bribery. The Court wouild never accept such an agreement.
You need to hang in there and persist in your attempts to see this child. Eventually, you will win. She is purposely causing the alienation of your child's affections from you. In TN, it is grounds to cause a change of custody. This is your child. You need to persist in your fight. Your mother can and should seek her own visitation order.
