Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

my inheritance and alimont

My brother died and left his house in my name.I am now 58 years old and my husband wants a divorce. He would not let me work outside the home in our 38 years of marriage and now he has found a younger woman. I am asking for alimony and now I have heard that the house my brother left me will go against me. What is the Tennessee law on that? I have a moral obligation to my neice for half the money when the house is sold.

In determining whether to award alimony the court is to look at a number of factors. I try to explain them on my website at jesbeard.com at link http://jesbeard.com/3d.htm

In a nutshell, the court may well consider your other assets relative to your husbands, as well as your earning's potential against his in deciding whether to award alimony. So, yes, the fact that you inherited the home could be a factor working against be awarded alimony.
