Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

kinship placement

My son's baby was born on April 4. The mother had a positive drug test, and CPS placed Baby with me in a kinship placement (not foster care). I got no copies of the papers I signed and have not had the ''services'' they kept mentioning. The worker told me ''off the record'' to let the parents babysit so they could bond. Last week the mother OD'ed while the baby was in the house. CPS had told me that they did not have custody, that the parents had not yet lost custody, but that I had temp custody. What are my rights re the baby? Can I leave the area or the state with him? This county is full of graft and corruption and I do not trust the judge to be fair. If I leave the state, can I apply for custody elsewhere?

Re: kinship placement

You need to secure your rights in Tennessee before you move. You didn't say where your son is in all of this but if he will consent to you being named guardian or even allow you to adopt the child, that will secure your rights in relationship to the child.
