Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Legal Pseudonym

I am a resident of Tennessee and would like to have a legal pseudonym that I can go by. What steps do I have to take to be able to have a legal pseudonym?

Re: Legal Pseudonym

I am unaware of any "legal pseudonym" procedure or status under TN law. If you want to be known by another name, simply start using the other name. Without knowing why you want to do this, it is impossible to offer meaningful advice. If you would like to speak with me directly, feel free to email or call. Contact information is at my website at jesbeard.com if it is not here.

I agree with the previous answer: without knowing the "Why" it is impossible to give meaningful guidance.

If you are wanting to use an assumed name for the purpose of opperating a business---it would be among the mandatory forms to be filed in registering your business.

If you are wanting to register a pseudonym in relation to --for example--a pin name that has become identified with a particular person, it can me registered as a trademark.

Many professions specifically prohibit the use of false or assumed names.

And....be cautioned about when it will not be acceptable to give a different name----if with intent to injure or defraud another person you assume a false identity---criminal impersonation is a misdemeanor.
