Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Minors and Child Support information

I have two children, ages 15 and 16, that live with their father in another state. The father frequently involves the children in child support issues and makes them call to ask me questions about where I work at and to complain if the child support is late. Involving them and making them pawns has severely strained my relationship with them. Is there a way to forbid him to involve them in this, and leave his and my problems with just he and I? I have been paying child support regularly and am not behind just so that you know. It is often the state's fault he does not receive his checks.

You might be able to get a court to order that the father stop doing this, but you'll have to go to the right court for the order -- either in the state where the children now are (assuming they've been there for 6 months or more), or by going back to the court that awarded him custody. You might also have trouble getting a court to believe the father is doing as you claim. For information on the law in Tennessee on recording such conversations, take a look at the information at the following site: http://209.68.31.21/16.htm The law may be entirely different outside of Tennessee, but if YOU are in Tennessee at the time you would be making such a recording, the information on the website is an accurate statement of Tennessee law.
