Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Proof of paternity & time limit on filing for child support

I question the time limit on filing for child support when at the birth there was not paternity established. I am well aware of who the father is but due to my being a minor at the time of the pregnancy (child now 11years old)he(the "father") flew the coop when it was determined I was pregnant by him. He has a total of 5 children & I know of 2 that live w/him & his current wife at the present time. My child being the 2nd born out of the 5-- 4 other children by two other women. If I do decide to take him to court, proof paternity, etc, etc, what are the laws governing back child support, & MOST IMPORTANT- if I do take father to court for child support- what privilages would the court allow him as far as visitation or custody? What effect,if any,do his other obligations(children) have as far as the amount or percentage of income I would receive??? Thanks for your help

Talk to your local child support enforcement unit with your district attorney general's office. Every district attorney general's office in Tennessee will have a child support enforcement unit, and they provide free legal assitance for custodial parents seeking child support.

They should be able to answer any of your questions and to also handle everything in court to get child support for you from the father.
