Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Relocating with the child

As I understand, I cannot, according to TN law move out of county of residence without my ex's consent. This circumstance hinders my ability to find work due to the fact commuting is costly and because the area I'm from is somehat small. What do I do? I know he'll never agree. He hasn't seen her in over a year and has been summoned to court multiple times due to back child support.

Re: Relocating with the child

You do not need your ex's consent. You do have some obligations per state law prior to moving and I suggest you contact an attorney to discuss those obligations. But ultimately, you can go if he does not oppose your move or if the court says you can. Based on your reason for wanting to move and based on his complete lack of contact for the last year, moving may not be out of the question for you. Please contact a lawyer about this as I think you have a misunderstanding about the obsticles you face. Best of luck.
