Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
my rights with my grandchild
My 11 year grandson has lived with me for two years and I have been his full means of support. The original jurdication was in MS. and we live in TN. Both parents live in TN and nothing in the original degree is the way it was ordered. I have no medical insurance, therefore, pay all expenses. He sees his parents whenever they want him which is not often. His mother might call and want him for dinner right then. Regardless of his schedule he is expected to go with her. I need to know if the orders now in effect are any good and what I can do to have the say about where he goes and when. He has a busy schedule and get very upset when he has to miss ball practice, church, school or whatever he has planned because she wants him to come over for a couple of hours.

Re: my rights with my grandchild
I would say technically, yes the court order controls the situation if there is any dispute. Have an attorney look at all the orders to make sure. You might want to look into filing a dependency and neglect petition. Speak with an experienced lawyer before you do this. The problem is that it might make the parents angry and if you are not successful, they may take measures to get him back which apparently would not be in his best interest. Still, if your grandchild is miserable with the way things are going, you may have no real choice. Good luck and seek legal counsel before taking any action.
