Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee
Struggling Student Pays Debt for Gready Ex Husband
While in the process of divorce, I signed a legal document stating I
would pay my ex-husband $3,000.00 for ''mutual debt''. I only owe
him another $300.00 but am angry because I never should have
given him the money in the first place. I paid for 1/2 of the down
payment on our house (which he still lives in) and gave him
$4000.00 for the down payment on the Jeap he drives. I struggle
while waiting tables to pay for my college education while he has a
Masters degree. What would happen if I just stopped paying him?
Is there any way I can get any of that money back? He has been
using the money I give him to further improve the house, and can
easily sell it for twice what we paid.

I can not answer your question without knowing what the legal document is. I probably would need to see it or have it read to me. However, I can tell you, if the legal document was a dissolution agreement which was incorporated into a final decree of divorce, that is now a court order and you must comply with court orders.
