Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Subpoena

A friend of mine, had me Subpoena to court in a custody hearing concerning her and x-husband. She called to let me know that the date of court had been change. There is a new date she gave me. Am i still under this Subpoena for the new court date or do I have to be Reserved. I dont want to go. I'll have to miss work and I dont want to be involved. Thanks

I do not feel comfortable answering your question because it depends on other facts such as whether the court was involved in continuing the case and whether the judge gave instructions regarding the subpoena. In any event you should either appear or let the friend's layer know you don't plan to. I wouldn't play games with the lawyer though. It is too easy for him or her to re-issue a subpoena for your appearance. Obviously he needs your testimony. But you need his help too. He can coordinate around your schedule so you are not sitting outside the courtroom for hours. Work with the lawyer and the lawyer will most likely work with you so as to take as little of your time as possible. Good luck.
