Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Tennessee
I'm a 17 year old girl, and I received a phone call yesterday from a man named "Officer Cooper", saying that I am under investigation for social security fraud. I recently had my name changed on my social security card, so I was thinking this was a misunderstanding. Anyhow, I returned the man's phone call today asking about the situation, and the man became very hostile towards me, yelling and saying that I need a lawyer and had a court date Monday as well as I was going to go to jail. After the convosation took place, he asked for my mother to give him a call and had hung the phone up in my face. I was very upset and went into an anxiety attack. My sister phoned my mother and told her to give the man a call back. After she had done this, it came to realization that this was not an officer, but a man from a loan place in our city who was trying to reach my mother. He retrieved my information without authorization as well as use my social securtiy delima to get to my mother. He also harassed me, a 17 year old girl, just to get to my mom as well as used a fake identity. My question is could I take legal actions for this matter?

You need to contact the state attorney general for an abusive consumer practice and discuss this with an attorney who handles Fair Debt Collection Practices Act cases.
