Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Tennessee

Wrongful termination/Slander ???

My husband was accused of stealing and was fired from his job. He was, of course, not stealing and the ''proof'' they had was weak at best. He offered to take a polograph test and they blew it off. This is not a job that he wants back, but they have been spreading it around that he is a thief, mostly to his co-workers and others in the same company. At the time he was fired, the supervisor told my husband that he would only say that he quit. After talking to my husband's co-workers, that was not the case. Does he have a wrongful termination or a slander case?

Re: Wrongful termination/Slander ???

The answer would depend on what exactly is being said and what, if anything, your husband did. If the employer is speaking untruths, it amy be actionable if there are damages.

Probably not, but it also depends on to whom these statements are being made. If all of the statements are being made within the same company, then there has not been publication to a third party. Publication is one of the elements of a slander claim.
