Legal Question in Immigration Law in Tennessee
Reinstating my Green Card Status
Hello,
I am a German Citizen and I was married to an American for 14 Years and we have 2 children. We got divorced 7 years ago and he and our Children, 19 and 16 are living in the States as well. I am currently on a Visitor Visa in the States, I have lived and worked in the US before and have a Resident Alien Card and a SSN, but I was told my Resident Status was lost even before I got divorced because I have to enter the US once a year in order to keep my Status. What can I do to become a Resident Alien once again. I am planning on getting married to an American, as a matter of fact we just purchased a house together, but I believe I cannot legally work here anymore, is that correct?
Thank you!

Re: Reinstating my Green Card Status
I agree that you would not have the right to work here in the US (at least right now) but you seem to have the option of having your future husband file for your green card or you could wait until your children are eligible to file for you (assuming that they are US citizens - which they should be because of their father). Now keep in mind that this advice requires on a lot of assumptions based on the information you've given. It is in your best interest to at least consult with an immigration attorney to make sure the proper advice is given. You can call or email us.
