Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Tennessee
How can I submit a story to a magazine or to a publisher without the fear of them publishing my work or ideas as their own and later claim that since my writings were not copy written, or any other legal issues, that they were able to take my writings and print them as their own. Basically, how can I send my works to get published without them stealing or plagiarizing?

Most attorneys will tell you the standard practice by authors is to place a copyright notice on all your stories (copyright 2010 by John Smith, all rights reserved).before any submission. This establishes copyright on the document before it is disseminated. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.
