Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Tennessee

Pregnancy-Emancipation

My step-son has gotten his girlfriend pregnant. She wants to move in with us, with her being pregnant is there anything that her mother could do to stop her from doing so since SHE IS pregnant. She will be 18 in October. I have been given diffrent answers by diffrent attorneys on this subject, I was told that with her being pregnant she more or less emancipated herself, and that she could move in with us if she wanted to, and her mother could try to interfere but couldn't. What is your take on this? Should we look into getting a attorney. Her living situation isn't all that good her mother won't even take her to school. Thanks alot!

Re: Pregnancy-Emancipation

Getting herself pregnant did not emancipate her. Didn't that strike you as a stupid answer? If a 14 year old got pregnant, would she be emancipated? Of course not. Emancipation requires an independent means to provide for herself. In theory, the girl could get emancipated by marrying your son, but that would require a parent's permission, because she is under age 18.
