Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee
Dress Code
My company has 1 dress code policy that does state exceptions. Is it legal for them to hold only certain employees to that policy, while allowing others to break it? In addition is it legal to retaliate against the employees that question it?

Re: Dress Code
It is not legal for an employer to apply the dress code and/or disciplinary policy in a discriminatory manner. Otherwise, generally dress codes are legal and the employer is free to discipline employees who violate the policy.
Retaliation for protesting illegal (discriminatory) activity is not legal. However, if you simply protest the policy, you could be deemed insubordinate. Insubordination is generally punishable.
